Helping people to get fit for their operation

Evidence shows that fitter patients recover more quickly after operations and stay healthier for longer.

People who adopt a healthier lifestyle have a lower risk of complications and are less likely to require a lengthy hospital stay.

NHS West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group has introduced a new Health Optimisation Policy to ensure pre-operative support is available to people who smoke, are classed as overweight or who drink above recommended limits.

This initiative is delivered in partnership with the Countess of Chester Hospital and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

To find out more information about the pre-operative benefits of adopting a healthier lifestyle, please view a patient leaflet here.

Hard copies of the leaflet can be accessed via your GP practice.
